Photopea vs StackImage: editor or toolkit?

You do not replace Photopea with a compressor. You also should not open a full editor to shrink three JPEGs. Here is the split.

Photopea is a real editor: layers, PSD, masks, type, smart objects. It can keep work in the tab. It is the honest free alternative when someone says “I need Photoshop for twenty minutes.” StackImage is not that product. We will not list “Photopea alternative” as if crop-and-compress were the same job.

Open Photopea when

  • You have a PSD, XCF, or a layered design to change.
  • You need masks, blend modes, or careful retouching.
  • The deliverable is a composed graphic, not a smaller file.

Open StackImage when

  • The job is compress, convert (including HEIC), resize, crop, rotate.
  • You want a watermark or a line of text, not a type system.
  • You want an on-device background matte or a 2×/4× upscale.
  • You have a batch and you want a ZIP, not a timeline of layers.
