About
Upscale images in the browser at 2× or 4×. Models run on-device after a one-time download from our storage.
Super-resolution invents detail. WebGPU is used when available, then WebGL, then CPU. Typical 12 MP phone photos run at 2×. Larger frames or 4× are fitted to a working size first so the export cannot explode memory.
This is not Topaz, Magnific, or a lossless enlarge. Use Resize Image when you only need a smaller exact box.

What you actually get
2× and 4× only. The model invents plausible texture; it does not recover lost optical detail. Faces and type can look over-crisp.
CPU is slow. Inputs above the pixel cap are rejected. The original stays in the workspace if inference fails.
Upscale vs a normal resize
Resize Image is a cheap resample to an exact box. Upscale is a heavier model pass that only offers 2× or 4×. Start with resize when the source is already large.
After an upscale, compress if you need a smaller file. Super-resolution PNGs are often huge.
When not to use this tool
Skip it for forensic recovery, archival scans you must not alter, or anything that needs a certified print pipeline. Do not treat invented pixels as evidence.
If you only need “1920px wide,” Resize Image is the honest tool.
